Andrew Michael White BA (Hons) Hum, Dip Integ Counselling, MNCS (Accred)

About Me.

I am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society.

I qualified with a Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and an Honours Degree in Humanities, the focus of which was mainly Psychology.

I worked as a Bereavement Counsellor at St Clare’s Hospice where I supported people in finding ways to continue with their lives after the loss of a loved one.

I also worked as a Counsellor at Cygnus Support in Ashington, where I provided counselling to people with a variety of mental health problems. These included bereavement, depression, anxiety, stress, lack of self-esteem and those who had survived domestic abuse.

I currently run my own private practice providing counselling to people in the North East of England, as well as providing mental health mentoring to University students.

First Session.

I see the first appointment as a very informal meeting.

It lasts for 50 minutes and involves a discussion about why you have come to counselling and what your expectations of it are. We will then both decide whether we can work together in helping you.

There will be some paperwork consisting of an assessment of your mental health, a contract, and a data protection form, the last two of which are legal requirements. These are now emailed to you to be completed at your own pace and I will help you with them if you want me to.

How I Work.

I will listen to you and support you as you share your problems with me. I will always be open and honest with you and never judge you or criticise you.

By identifying and developing your own strengths and resources we can help you to adjust to the changes in your life.

I believe that counselling is a very person specific process. The type of approach used, whether it be CBT, Person Centred or Psycho Dynamic depends very much upon what best suits the individual person and what would be most effective in helping them with their problems.

It should never be forgotten that the most important person in the process is the client. Addressing their problems and helping them to understand themselves, their problems and finding ways to cope and to move forward is what the whole thing is about.
