I see children, teenagers and adults for short or longer-term counselling and psychotherapy. I meet with parents as a necessary part of the work with a child or young person.
I offer an ‘at-depth’ psychological approach. I have particular experience of psychotherapy with adults who have recurring or acute difficulties, such as repeated problems with personal or work relationships, acute or ongoing anxiety, difficulties with managing anger, patterns of addiction or self-harm. These sorts of problems are often the result of trauma or other difficulties arising from childhood or the person may be aware of having had difficulties for a long time.
I do also offer short-term counselling as part of my general practice.
I have considerable experience of therapeutic work with children and teenagers, (age 4 – 19 yo) and am able to see young people with a wide range of emotional and/ or behavioural problems. I mainly work via non-directional play therapy for children, which allows a child to express in their own way what is troubling them. I have a particular interest in helping children who have significant developmental problems. (eg. Silent, withdrawn children; those with learning difficulties or those with a (potential) diagnosis of ASD, PDD.) However, I also see children who attend mainstream schools, who may generally be doing well, but who may have some difficulties in one or more areas.
I offer a flexible, indirect approach for teenagers, adapted to the needs of each young person.
I originally trained in adult counselling, however, I’ve undertaken a substantial amount of further study, including a one year certificate course in psychodynamic work with adults, 4 years of specialist psychotherapy training to work with children and teenagers and numerous seminars, short courses and study groups.
