Margaret Keith

I am a qualified Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor who has been offering psychological services to young people and adults for over 10 years in schools and in community and voluntary services as well as supporting people through employee assistance programmes and in private practice.

I have extensive experience in working with clients facing a variety of psychological concerns, ranging in severity and intensity. I have helped people suffering from different emotional challenges, including depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, trauma, eating disorders, relationship and personality difficulties, bereavement, self-harming behaviours, domestic violence, sexual abuse, work related issues, bullying, emotional abuse and neglect in their lives.

My therapeutic approach integrates both Counselling and Psychotherapy. Drawing from both Counselling and Psychotherapy in providing a space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. Counselling tends to focus on more specific problems whereas Psychotherapy can address deeper underlying issues.

My work draws on many different models including:

Person-Centred Therapy - facilitates the personal growth and relationships of an individual by allowing them to explore and utilise their own strengths and personal identity;

Transactional Analysis - analysing why we think, feel and behave in the way we do which is very effective in helping individuals understand their problems and help make lasting life changes;

Mindfulness - the ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us;

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - focuses on how our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect our feelings and behaviour, and teaches us coping skills for dealing with different problems.

The focus of our work will be to explore the concerns you have towards your life, in a safe and respectful environment. We will work collaboratively and I will help you gain a better understanding of yourself, and how you can choose to live more fully and with greater contentment. I will help you to understand your difficulties, build on strengths and develop coping strategies to overcome difficulties and build resilience. I will assist you to develop behaviours and patterns of thinking that help you to reach your goals, maintain well-being and live the life you value.

As individuals, we have different needs when looking for therapeutic support. Through a holistic, personalised approach, therapy can provide beneficial improvements in mental well-being and the decision making that is right for us.

With over 10 years’ experience working with individuals from different backgrounds, lifestyles, race and religions, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and practice of caring for others in a professional capacity, and continue to explore and further my current practice to enhance self-reflection, awareness and knowledge.
